This bank holiday weekend was our lovely cousin Fiona’s 30th birthday, so the whole UK side of the family got together to celebrate over afternoon tea in East Sussex at Ashdown Park. The sun was shining and we couldn’t have been in more beautiful surroundings.
We were greeted by friendly staff on arrival, and shown straight to a room they’d set out for us. After putting in our tea orders, (they have a great selection of loose leaf teas on the afternoon tea menu), towers of sandwiches, scones and sweet treats were served, with plenty of clotted cream and jams.
Our Ashdown Park afternoon tea included a selection of sandwiches, the fluffiest plain and fruit scones, and a selection of cakes and pastries including slices of liquorice and vanilla battenberg, and pineapple and coconut cupcakes. As we made our way through the yummy treats, the staff made sure our tea cups were never dry.
With our tummies full we went to explore the grounds.
We would definitely recommend a visit for afternoon tea or a weekend break, as they have plenty do to from just exploring the grounds and the surrounding woodland, to golf, croquet, tennis courts, or just enjoying tea in the sunshine. Oh and for those of you that are Winnie the Pooh fans like us, they do a Winnie the Pooh afternoon tea that includes honey sandwiches, Kanga cupcakes and Tigger’s sponge! I think it’s meant for children, but sure they’d still serve it to adults if you asked nicely.
